Oakland Baptist Church

" Like Coming Home "

About Oakland Baptist Church  14295 Hickory Street

The year was 1912

US Marines land in Cuba ~ The Titanic Sinks ~ Captain Albert Berry preformed First Parachute Jump ~ Arizona became the 48th State ~ One of our best loved hymns was published – “In The Garden”

And at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, Jan. 12, 1912

16 people gathered in Oakland MS to start Oakland Baptist Church.

Over the last 108 years Oakland Baptist has seen the changes all communities see as some people move away and others move in.  And, we have gathered at the gravesides of many of our older members to say farewell.

And yet, during that same time we’ve said hello to many new members who are present at Oakland Baptist today. Through all these years there’s been much remodeling, new chimes, new sound systems and landscaping.

And in this year 2022 our 110th year anniversary we still …

Come into HIS house and gather in HIS name to worship HIM, the LORD Jesus.

To teach and proclaim The Word of God.

I recently ask our congregation, “What does this Church mean to you?”

Everyone agreed, it is special and each of their keywords seem to bring us to a song of                “Thanksgiving & Praise.”

Family ~ I’m so glad I’m a part of the family of God
I’ve been washed in the fountain
Cleansed by His blood.
Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod
For we are part of the family
The family of God!

Love ~ I was sinking deep in sin far from the peaceful shore, very deeply stained within sinking to rise no more. But the Master of the sea heard my despairing cry and from these waters lifted me, now safe am I.  Yes, “Love Lifted Us”

Worship ~ We Have Come Into His House
And Gathered In His Name To Worship Him. Let’s Forget About Ourselves
Magnify His Name And Worship Him.
Worship Him, Christ The Lord.

As we closed prayer meeting one of our dear members said she thought the hymn

“Sweet, Sweet Spirit” says it best.

I agree, the Holy Spirit of God, by “Grace through Faith” in Christ Jesus our LORD indwelling the hearts and lives of believers who gather here.

Join us on Sunday's for Bible Study & Worship and Wednesday's for Prayer Meeting.
